For the 2026/27 tax year (6 April 2026 to 5 April 2027) Income Tax rates and thresholds in England, Wales and Northern Ireland are unchanged, and the freeze has been extended to April 2031.
Rates at a glance
- Personal allowance: £12,570 (reduced by £1 for every £2 over £100,000)
- Basic rate 20% up to £50,270; higher rate 40% up to £125,140; additional rate 45% above
- Employee National Insurance: 8% between £12,570 and £50,270, then 2%
Why it matters
Because thresholds don't rise with inflation, any pay increase pushes more of your income into higher bands. This is often called "fiscal drag".
Dividend tax rates also rose by 2 percentage points from April 2026.
