How superannuation works in 2026-27
Your employer must pay the super guarantee of 12% of your ordinary time earnings into your super fund, on top of your salary. From 1 July 2026, under Payday Super, employers pay super at the same time as your wages.
| Item | 2026-27 |
|---|---|
| Super guarantee rate | 12% |
| Concessional contributions cap | A$32,500 |
| Non-concessional cap | A$130,000 |
| Tax on concessional contributions | 15% (30% if income over A$250,000) |
| Maximum super contribution base | A$270,830 a year |
Salary sacrifice
Extra contributions from your pre-tax salary are taxed at 15% in the fund instead of your marginal tax rate, which can save tax for most workers. Employer contributions and salary sacrifice together count towards the A$32,500 concessional cap.
